Gurney Goo update
20 March, 2018. Sari and I have finished our cycling adventure and would like to update you about using Gurney Goo. If you apply it twice: night time and again in the morning, your bum will be protected. When we first started cycling we had some minor issues but once we started applying Gurney Goo twice a day – no more – it’s amazing stuff!!
How often have you gone on a walk and ended up getting blisters? Or, put off going on a bike ride because you always get a sore crotch/bum from chaffing? Well, no more – have I the two products for you:
- Gurney Goo
- Hiker’s Wool
Gurney Goo
Steve Gurney (now retired from professional racing) is still an Adventurer, Engineer, Innovator, Keynote Speaker, Motivator and Author. He’s a nine times winner of the Coast to Coast race (it took him five attempts before he won his first Coast to Coast). He has also won many international multi-sport multi-day events under very extreme conditions. He has suffered from extreme depression. His autobiography “Lucky Legs” is a great read, it gives an insight into what motivated him, the continual self-improvement and innovations he explored and applied to his racing career. I could go on and on.
One of his inventions is Gurney Goo. It wasn’t until I checked out his website that I realised how many uses there are for Gurney Goo – quite extraordinary. I mostly use it on my longer bike rides, especially if I’m riding day after day. It saved my butt cheeks when I was cycling the Karakorum Highway, when we spent hours sitting on the bike seat, day after day.
It’s a gel that helps prevent chaffing, blisters & infections (contains Tea-Tree antiseptic qualities). It protects the skin from friction and abrasion, for example: your hands, toes, crotch, nipples, feet, armpits, kayak blisters; shoulders in the vicinity of pack straps, plus much much more. It can even help prevent prune wrinkles and trench foot in wet conditions. It has kept Steve blister free for 20 years of adventure racing – I think it is a must have in everyone’s medical kit. For those of you with small grand-babies Gurney Goo is great for preventing nappy rash.
Gurney Goo comes in two sizes: 10 ml and 85 ml tubes as displayed above. You can purchase Gurney Goo from Trek n Travel, Victoria Street, Hamilton, NZ or Gurney Goo. Check out the following link on how to apply it before cycling or exercise. Click on the tab “Installation Instructions”, it’s all there for you.
Hey, would love to hear your experiences and or uses for Gurney Goo, don’t be afraid to tell.
If you don’t want to read Steve’s books but want more info on him, check out this e-magazine article, it’s very motivational and thought provoking: Epic Mentors – Steve Gurney. I’ve been told he’s also a great speaker to have, very entertaining with plenty of stories to tell and very motivational.
HikersWool
“The blister blitzer”
I use HikersWool in my tramping boots to prevent rubbing between my toes, and re-use it many times. Once you have used it a few times you will be able to judge how much wool to use.
HikersWool is made from 100% pure New Zealand lambs’ wool. It is great for helping prevent blisters between your toes and on the soles of your feet by whisking away moisture and providing friction free movement. HikersWool is not medicated, therefore do not use it on broken skin.
You buy HikersWool in a small packet; it’s extremely light and certainly not an issue to pop a packet in your backpack for your tramp
Where to busy HikersWool? I brought mine from Trek n Travel, Victoria Street, Hamilton, NZ or you can buy it online at www.hikerswool.co.nz.
Check the video on how to use HikersWool. I would love to have your feedback if HikersWool has helped prevent any blisters on your feet.
That’s it until next time! GoldCard Gal 🙂
