As I went to sleep last night I wondered what I was going to write about today! I should know by now to trust myself and those outside influences to provide me with ideas, and snippets of news and events.
This morning as I cycled to New World supermarket on my trusty two-wheeled machine I was hoping to get some photographs of the new bridge infrastructure across the Waikato River by the Hamilton Gardens but all access roads were closed, so sorry no updates there. The good news was there was no queue at the supermarket and that task was completed efficiently. It was a beautiful day to be out and about on my bike, checking out the local changes to the landscape – most notable was a number of “new builds” in progress.
How has your day two in lockdown been? Any news, events or incidents happen to you? You are welcome to share them here.
Thank you for your feedback and to those of you who have commented to my blog post. It was reassuring to hear from you.
Fish & chip knitting patterns
When I first heard Jan talk about fish and chip knitting patterns I had no idea what she was talking about until she told me the story behind the name and showed me a finished garment. Last night see sent me her recently completed jumper and hat, thank you Jan.
The story
Many of the new born babies from poor villages in Africa are sent home from hospital wrapped up in newspaper to keep them warm, just like a fish and chips pack. Many of these babies are suffering from Aids and the jumpers are the only warm garment they are likely to receive. Various groups around the world now knit these garments so a baby can go home with a warm and colourful jumper and perhaps a hat.
IF you have some spare time and enjoy knitting perhaps you’d like to give this pattern a go. Pinterest has many colourful pattern options and ideas. Jan gives her garments to Plunket so they can distribute them where there is a need in Cambridge.
Covid Testing with wine
Thank you Floss for sending the link to this inventive idea – click here to check it out. Let me know your results.
Public toilets locked
I mentioned last night that Les and Carol were heading south to Wellington, on their way home to Cromwell. There trip south today is not without some hardship. Bad enough not having any coffee stops but when you require a comfort stop – you are out of luck. With the country being in lockdown who would have thought that all public toilets would be locked or boarded up? But yes, that is correct and the petrol station owners were not allowing anyone to use their toilets. In desperation they went to the local New World and brought two muffins so they qualified as “Valued Customers’ and then asked to use their toilets. Which incidentally had a couple of trolleys blocking the entrance to the toilets – get the feeling they didn’t want their customers using them?
Just had a text from Les and Carol saying they were stopped at a police check point at Sanson. Fortunately Carol had all the paperwork on hand, along with recent text from InterIslander asking if they want to cross Cook Strait on Friday instead of the Saturday. So that is great news for them.
Daily quote
I saw this quote today:
“Just seeing how some people wear their masks, I now fully understand why contraception fails.”

Hi Heather
I had been wondering if you would start your blog again. Happy that you have. Love the photo of the Fish and Chip Jersey and hat.
Our nursery continues to operate and it has been stressful getting all required protocols in place. I am not working so that I can be on standby if our admin team have to go home. Ben also staying separate from any of the work bubbles for the same reason.
I have had Violet and Quinn here sewing. Have requests for masks in the nursery instead of disposable ones.
Pleased that Les and Carol have made it to the Sth Island. It is a big mission for them to drive so far in limited time.
Take care
Lots of love
Fran xx

Thank you Fran. Life sounds very busy for Ormond Nurseries and how nice to have Violet and Quinn with you. Have you ever knitted any fish and chips jerseys? I’m going to give them a go when I’ve finished my current projects. 🙂
