Quote for the day:
“The secret to being happy is accepting where you are in life and making the most out of every day.”
Day six, dawned sunny with clear blue skies – a day to be seized.
Today being Tuesday is usually our Tuesday Cycling Group gathering. We always meet at Gordonton and enjoy the companionship and company of fellow cyclists while having a good workout. Some say it’s more than a cycling group, if you want to read more about our group, check out this post which I wrote sometime ago. So instead of a group ride I decided to make the most of the warm autumn sun and clear blue skies and cycle the Waikato River Trail out to Ngaruawahia and return. Luckily I realised there would be no coffee anywhere along the way, so wasn’t disappointed. The signs of autumn are starting to show with slight colouring the tree leaves. Many people were also out enjoying the morning either walking/cycling either by themselves with with family members. It’s a great sight to see.
Snake update
No updates on the snake episode. Last report no sign of it, hopefully it’s gone back under the house. “Out of sight, out of mind.”
Virtual drinkies
Had my first ‘virtual drinkies’ this afternoon with Denise. What a great way to have catch up! How are you keeping in touch with friends and family?
Good books
What are you reading at the moment? Got any recommendations? I love to have your feedback.
Love to hear what’s been happening in your world? Well that is it from me, take care and remember keep in your bubble – GoldGard Gal 🙂

Lockdown day 7.
Geese! More accurately Canadian geese.
It’s that time of the year when we see the northly migration of these aerial behemoths over the Waikato.
With so much quiet in the mornings the honking coming from of these squadrons as they lift off like WW2 Lancaster and B17 bombers from the recently cut corn fields setting course for the north, is clear and loud.
Which ones are honking?
What are they saying?
Is it? “This way you lot! follow me” – “Roger Wilco, Red Leader”
Or? “Are we there yet? “I want to go to the loo!”- “You should have used the field”
Maybe “goose” singing as in: “Show Me the Way to go Home”
What ever it is, none of these supposed Canadian geese seem to have the slightest inclination to help me with de thatching of Manitoba, let alone the rest of the prairie.
I have reached areas where “MOSS” seems to grow and spread like COVID19.
It looks so benign, soft and cuddly, but beware! Once it has infiltrated the lawn it takes over and is very hard to eradicate.
Sulphate of Iron does a good job and I have heard of horticultural witches using recopies containing washing up liquid.
All of these require a physical removal after.
Perhaps I can get mad noisy neighbour to drive the moss away with some loud piece of equipment. Today he has been at it constantly. I wonder what the Hamilton CC would think about it?
Lunch arrives with appropriate R&R.
In the garage today it is flat stage and while it is expected that the sprinters will have their day, the wife has removed the dried washing from the garage and there is likely to be a strong side wind later coming off the neighbour’s roof and through the window.
Perhaps we will see echelons forming.
I will have to be diligent and not get caught out too far from the front
Today is also much warmer than earlier in the week, making sure to have enough fluid will be vital. To that end I have set the wind trainer up next to the fridge which contains all of our beers and wines to be consumed cold.
Early on, the teams of Rick Van Looy, Cipo, McKewan, Cav etc., have taken control.
My team are doing their best to keep me in it but I fear that our Tuesday group at Gordonton are not quite in the same league.
Bruce “Davo” Davidson is working like Trojan to keep me near the front and his powerful statue is making both my job easier and the opposition’s more difficult.
Only 5ks to go, I look down, I am in a 42 x 15 with only one cog to go, sweat spreading out all over the floor.
2 ks to go, Davo swings over (I shall have to buy him a beer now). Then Sagon appears from nowhere! It hell for leather now, front wheels locked to the back of the lead out men.
Inside the barriers, a roar from the crowd!
Then it’s all over. Not sure who won but I have stayed upright, have not lost any time and better still, I shall be the first for dinner tonight.
Ahh dinner!
Venison steaks on the BBQ tonight. Should sleep and dream well.

I am not on my bike yest but have set myself up for a windtrainer challenge. 4 x 10 minutes. In-between session, I do my 5 min yoga stretches, have a bit of breakfast, make my bed, do the dishes.
My other exercise is walking and my favourite route is from my place out to the arboretum which gives me stunning views out towards Pirongia and Temple View. Yesterday I took a plastic bag and foraged for mushrooms along the pathway which are rather plentiful if you get up early. A local farmer was surveying his paddocks and asked me to wait a few minutes, to return with a basin of his mushrooms. Wow, how generous. My neighbours were delighted when I passed some onto them. The arboretum walk also has a lot of people exercising their dogs big and small. Some of the owners are becoming 2 m acquaintances as we see each other more often.

Thank you Margie, you have a good exercise routine in place! We must do the arboretum walking sometime, it sound beautiful. 🙂

Hi Heather, great bike ride this morning around Tamahere quite a little one compared to Ngaruawahia and back. Nick dropped off groceries yesterday so we had a face to face chat 2 metres apart and at least saw our grandkids. Being unable to have a hug reminds us how lucky we are that we get them when the world is normal. I’m reading the second book in the series The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley. Recommend for a light read.

Thanks Carly for your input. Yes fabulous day for bike ride! The trilogy books seem to be a theme while in lock-down. Howz the meditation going?

I’m up to page 700 of 800+ The mirror and the light, Hillary Mantels final in her trilogy about the final Plantagenet years. A marvellous read if you like well researched historical novels.

Thank you Susan sounds a great book to be reading in lock-down. 🙂

I had to go and look up the meaning of Plantagenet. 🙂
