Quote for the day:
“Families are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions yet our roots remain the same.”
from Good Housekeeping
Welcome to day 25. I wonder how you spent your day? I had a quiet day, short bike ride and rest of day at home pottering around in the garden and doing odd chores inside. I wonder if you are waiting for the big announcement tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm, whether we’re going to level 3 or staying in level 4? Someone jokingly said “level 3 is like level 4 but with KFC takeaways.”

Feature image
My feature image tonight comes from “Rafer of Byron Bay” thank you, it is eye-catching and the colour is striking.
Women in charge!
“Unhurried in Hamilton” has sent a link to a very interesting article regarding which countries have been most successful in combating the Covid-19 crisis. Food for thought?
Poem for The Heroes
The following poem was in today’s Canvas (supplement that comes with NZ Herald)
written by Daniel Lovewell, 11 years old.
Dear supermarket workers,
Thank You.
For putting up with this epidemic enough to keep us eating.
It must be hard having to leave your bubble
To sort out food fights
And toilet paper turmoil
And disinfectant dramas
And rationing rules
Keeping up with ever-changing regulations
Not knowing if the people who visit your store are sick
Or if you might get sick
Or what will happen next
You soldier on for the greater good
Spending your days on the front line
In the war against Covid-19
You are the everyday heroes
And on behalf of the people in my isolation bubble I say
Thank you.
Yours sincerely

Signs of autumn
Tonight we have signs of autumn from Byron Bay and Wanaka, scenes couldn’t be more diverse.
What next?
I’ve been asking myself this question for a few days now. Initially 28 days seemed such a long time away and I was’t sure I’d still be posting! Of course no definite decisions can be made until tomorrow’s Covid-19 announcement. So what if we go to level 3, shall I continue with posting or what? If we go to level 3, I imagine my readers over 70 will still be in a ‘lockdown’ of a sort, would you still like a platform to be able to share your photos, events and happenings? Would you still like a daily post from someone who is keen to make a digital connection with her readers? I welcome your thoughts, ideas and any suggestions. I will miss my daily digital contact with you!
It has been a goal of mine to become a better travel writer of my own adventures. My friend Denise recently recommended this book to me “The Travel Writer’s Way”. To see her review of the book, click on this link (you could also check out her travel adventures, she has done some amazing trips). This book guides you through a series of assignments along with advice from many renowned travel writers. Perhaps I could share my journey with you as I attempt to complete the various assignments? As I type those words, that idea frightens the hell out of me. I would be exposing my shortcomings and lack of vocabulary but then again, there is only one way, and that would be up! Still thinking about this journey. On a positive note, it would ensure I go off and have more adventures and that is a bonus – right? Have you got any advice to give me?
In the meantime, trust you’ve had a great day 25 and I look forward to hearing about your adventures and happenings.
Remember to be patient and kind to yourself and everybody in your bubble. Take care Goldcard Gal 🙂

Lockdown Day 25. (I think!- losing count now)
As FDR said while at the first inauguration as the 32nd President of the United States that was held on Saturday, March 4, 1933
“Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is…fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance”.
This applies as much today as it did then.
It applies to the world overall.
It applies to New Zealand and all of us here.
It applies to all the financial wizards that predict gloom and doom. The same as it also applies to the political egotist that similarly predict a disaster if things are not done their way.
It applies to you and me.
It applies in small and large measures.
So do not worry about self imposed limiting thoughts. As the advert says “Just Do It!
This blog has been and continues to be an outlet that enables anonymous contribution that brings and outlet for the frustration of being stuck in isolation, for information, laughter, new ideas, even recipes.
I for one have enjoyed all of it and look forward to the daily challenge. Who cares how we fill our days. It’s how we make the most of what we do during that time.
Does anyone care that I spend an hour each day peddling nowhere, sweating like pig, creating more washing. Of course not! What is important is that at the end of it I feel an awful lot better, and the time doing it has allowed me to think up a mad stupid narrative that might make someone laugh.
I have included characters from my present life, an earlier period and a long gone past.
However they are all as vivid to me as to be here right now.
I have not seen “The Machine” for more than 12 months, did not even know he had moved.
“WWW”, I have not been in company with for a decade but we correspond regularly.
Many of my fantasies are just that. (Some are long since deceased)
We now know that the lock down in the present form will last another 5 days.
What a further opportunity and certainly nothing to worry about.
For myself, the silver lining is the lack of reported road deaths and injuries synonymous with Easter. We can now expect a similarly for the ANZAC day weekend.
Oh! by the way. The workshop autumn clean up is complete
The Tour de Garage proceeded as usual.
Would you believe it? The Gordonton team came up trumps again and we maintained our overall lead.
Even with George Bennett still trying to off load hand painted cycling shoes at a discount price, it did not dent our performance.
So onward and upward

Had a lovely easy bike ride this morning, then home to make scones for the boys finishing off the log splitting. Had enjoyable tea and scones with the neighbours at the required distance on the deck in the sun beautiful morning. Yes I will miss your daily writing Heather, I don’t always turn on the computer every day but since the lock down it has become part of the routine to see what you have been up to each day. I love reading others thoughts too, very interesting and a good laugh as well. Right off to hear what today’s big announcement will be don’t usually have the television on before the chase so yippee another change to the routine. I loved the comments about coming out of lock down and back to being invisible for us over 70s. I guess the kids will still ring but perhaps not each day as we have been enjoying over the last 3 weeks.
Keep safe.
