Quote for the day:
“If you want to succeed, you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.” – John Rockefeller
Welcome to day 14. Two weeks of isolation – at times I wonder where the days have gone. How have you found the isolation so far?
In case you have missed day 13’s posts here they are: Day 13 posts.
Good news
The good news for today is the issue with my blog site (people not being able to add comments) over the last couple of days has been solved. Not by my ‘expert’ even though he assisted in broadening my thinking about possible solutions, but by sharing my blog issues with a fellow colleague and coming up with possible options – which then lead to a solution. So feeling pretty pleased that my ‘problem solving’ skills are still OK!
Snake update
The latest on the snake, now know it’s a python, so that is good news. On Saturday Phil was moving an unused door inside their house (their house is actually a large shed, but they’re making into a home and doing a great job), when the snake literally slid onto him which did initially give him a fright. But thankfully Phil is an Aussie, used to snakes and he’s a snake catcher so he stayed calm and took the snake outside and put it into the garden. The snake hasn’t been seen since, probably come back inside to find a nice warm place to sleep. Who knows???
Reflections on 14 days of blogging
As I was out walking this morning I decided it was time to reflect on the blogging process so far. Its been 14 days of consecutive posts, a record for me. These are my reflections:
- It’s been a series of highs and not so highs, meaning some days I had plenty of content, other days I struggled and it showed, and I”m OK about that.
- I am pleased with myself for completing a daily post.
- I’ve loved receiving and reading all your comments. Thank you to those of you who comment daily, it makes my blog so much more interesting. Thank you to those who have given me verbal feedback, appreciate it.
- I often realise a day or so later that I should have said this or said that in a particular post and feel disappointed with myself for not thinking broader. But I have to remind myself if I wait for my post to be perfect, it would never get posted.
- I’m getting better and feeling happier about sharing my thoughts and ideas even though I’ve quite a private person.
- I much more comfortable writing than talking about my ideas and thoughts because I can re-edit them.
- I’ve enjoyed having to think outside the box to comes up with ideas and thoughts, while at times it’s been challenging it has also been rewarding.
- Writing this blog has been a huge learning experience, thank you Prudence for encouraging it but at times I have wondered??
Have you enjoyed posting your daily activities and reflections?
Signs of autumn
To-do list
- Made my feijoa chutney today, the smell still lingering in the kitchen
- Did some more sanding on my out-door furniture – going to try and spend an hour a day – here’s hoping
Well that is it for day 14, what did you do today? What are your reflections on posting your comments daily?
Be kind and patient with each other, take care and stay in your bubble – Goldcard Gal 🙂

Lockdown day 14
“Woke up the morning feeling fine.
Had something special on my mind.”
Words from a 60’s Herman’s Hermits song, that kind of said how I am beginning to feel about this pandemic. Aside from the horrendous statistics coming out of Europe and the US, we in New Zealand are surely blessed to be at the far reaches of the world.
I guess there has to be an upside to 12 to 30 hours flying time for holidays as a norm.
The lawn is finished, lost it’s roof, completely de thatched! and just in time for the rain.
You have to be lucky sometimes.
I have even put away the vacuum cleaner, that’s all done as well.
The rain is most welcome, for the garden, for the farmers, and above all, it’s shut that mad noisy neighbour down. Niet, Nix, Nout, Nothing, No noise all day.
Perhaps the condemned received a reprieve.
2 weeks gone already and the Tour de Garage is nearing the pointy end. A time when flash in pan sprinters start making excuses about the season ahead and drop out.
When those who could not control their emotions and enthusiasm in the first 13 days, will start to pay the price.
For the Gordonton team, a team that is made up of true and tested men and women of stamina and resilience may well start to surge into the history books.
Today’s stage starts at La Porte de Maison, travels through the province of La Réfrigérateur before the grand finale on the lower slopes of Le Col de Driveway.
For myself the hard days of training in the old farts group on Tuedays is showing it true worth. At about 4 kms in, along with Dynamo Des, Road Rash Rex, The Machine and Davo, we put the hammer down and keep pressure on. First to fall back is the triple world champ Peter S and then it is the turn of those softies from Columbia. Only the Belgies are capable of matching it with us. At about three quarter distance, its only Eddy M , Phil G, and Tom B that are still with us. There is slight rise and Des goes to the middle of the road and switches his battery to full power. With legs and knees flying all over the place we hold his wheel. Next to go is Rex, he switches it to 9 and the Belgies have no answer. As the road marches up toward the finish we hold it together and take the first 5 places.
Commentators are heard saying that the Gordonton team are the next dominant force.
We would like to think so but time will tell. Tomorrow is another transition stage so we will need to be vigilant.
And some people say riding a wind trainer in doors is boring?

I had a good laugh about “Dynamo Des going to the middle of the road to switch his battery to full” So true about being in the middle of the road and the stage names very good! Thank you “Unhurried in Hamilton” 🙂

Another day has passed and the bubble is still intact. Today I didn’t achieve a great deal except as to straight the wood around our raised vegetable garden. Wanaka shows no mercy to wood.I bought the macrocapa from Invercargill in November last year. Twenty minutes after I took it off the trailer one piece had started to buckle. Our Mr Shifta told us the same the month before: he moved a 60 year old wooden house from Dunedin to Central. Within no time at all it was bending. So tomorrow we will take a wee ride to the golf course.Talking of that looks like we are staying the course; I-Solution Wanaka 😅

Thank you “I-Solution Wanaka” for your updates. Interesting about the macrocapa! Enjoy your cycle to golf course 🙂

Hi Heather, while writing this post I have a date and walnut loaf cooking in the oven, must member to check on it before it burns. Thanks to the decent rain last night the garden is looking very much happier today. Nick timed his under-sowing at the farm well with the rain last night coming the day after the job was completed. He is a happy boy. I do find it hard to think of things to add to your blog that are interesting so just ramble on, however, I enjoy reading what you and others say. My task today is to try and do the click and collect thing for the supermarket as the kids have been doing our shopping for essentials like fresh fruit and vegs but just add it to theirs and no bill arrives. They said it is a chance for them to do something for us for a change and they will look forward to a few more steak dinners after the lock down is lifted. A real autumn day today leaves blowing off the trees and I’m happy to have a kitchen day. Your Feijoa Chutney looks great well done. I would like the recipe so I can make some instead of just freezing the surplus fruit. Right off to rescue the loaf. Keep well and well done on your half way mark for the blog you are a star.

I always look forward to reading your comments ‘Carly of Tamahere’. 🙂 It’s interesting aye, my observation has been we often think our life is mundane and even boring but to other people it’s interesting and different. Anyway great news for Nick and the under planting done just before the much needed rain last night. Under planting my lawn is something I haven’t got around to yet -perhaps the weekend?? Yes will feijoa recipe later tonight.

Can you post your feijoa chutney recipe?
