Well – was half expecting that announcement, we are staying in level 4 until midnight Tuesday. What were you thinking or hoping?
Today has been quiet and my blog tonight will be brief. My creativity seems to be taking a holiday, and my brain feels tired. But, you can still test yourself with the dingbats and check out some rural scenes around Tamahere and Cambridge.
After my morning training walk I was eagerly looking forward the delivery of my Volare bread order via Sue next door. One loaf of Pain Au Levian and two croissants. Tomorrow I can’t wait to make my favourite croissant meal: poached egg, slices of avocado and fried bacon, with a sprinkle of black pepper, all neatly placed inside a slightly warmed croissant- the best. How do you like to eat your croissants? Or what is your favourite Volare treat? The pastries are pretty tasty eh?
Paralympics update
Sophie Pascoe won a silver medal last night in the 100 m breaststroke – well done Sophie. I’ve just heard her being interviewed on the radio. She’s feeling very happy with her performance because this is not one of her main events. She entered the event at the last minute because she wanted to “blow the cobwebs out and have some race experience” before her main events next week.
Dingbats
Today’s dingbats.

Neighbourhood scenes
These photographs are for all you city folk who can’t get out and enjoy our beautiful countryside. Thank you “Carly of Tamahere” for these rural scenes.

Just enjoyed warmed croissants for lunch today too. Lettuce, pastrami, tomato, cucumber, pickle, cheese and avocado, as you say delicious treat.
No bike ride today, decided to read my book instead had got to a very exciting part: Alex Cross detective light but interesting read on a wet Saturday afternoon. Love the dingbats but always have to look up the answers perhaps manage one from four not a great average. However the Waikato times code cracker keeps my brain ticking over each morning.
GoldCard Gal says
Thank you ‘Carly of Tamahere’ no bike ride for me either! Like you I enjoy doing the code cracker – it’s good fun along with the sudoku? 🙂

It seems that lockdown has a different stroke for different folk. We’ve not seen our Sydney-based daughter and family for two years and long to do so. Our August flight to Sydney was cancelled and we were so disappointed and so sad. Many families are in a similar position.
However, pushing 76 years of age I was grateful to wake up this morning, and every morning, actually. Right now I’m looking out on a lovely Waikato day with the garden bathed in sun. And I know how lucky we are.
We’ve done better than most by approaching Covid the Kiwi way. Importantly we’ve had relatively few Covid deaths – not many countries can say that. When not in lockdown the economy is booming. We’ve enjoyed a year of free travel around our country – not many can say that. How lucky we are.
We have to look on the bright side of life. Yes, a cliché but it’s the only way to get a perspective. When I can stomach it I watch the horrific news from Kabul, realising their’s is a lockdown for life. Ours is not. How lucky we are.
Keep calm and listen to the birdsong. 😊
GoldCard Gal says
Thank ‘Patricia on Vardon’. Agree we do need to look on the bright side of life – other wise it’s too depressing! I’m enjoying that Tin Cottage wine, it’s so easy to swallow! 🙂

Keep it up Heather. Really enjoying our chats.
Caught up with 2 friends this morning one who is recently widowed and we shared and swapped books. We sort of broke J ‘s rules but mental well-being was more important. 😁
GoldCard Gal says
Thank you Jan. Totally agree that mental well-being is far more important. Your friend sure will be finding this time very hard – so good of you to visit her. 🙂
Floss Hinton says
PING PONG!! THAT was abit difficult. Did anyone get that one?
GoldCard Gal says
Well done Floss, I certainly didn’t get it. 🙂

Love the photos, the area looks so lush and green.
Wet here every day or two, even had a day off work because of wet weather and our need to work in isolation with all the staff we. Pleased I am not the boss any longer!
GoldCard Gal says
Thank you for responding. Where is here? Yes agree about not being a boss! 🙂

Heather I wasn’t surprised by the extension of levels.
Sadly things are only mildly better under level 3
Feeling big time for Sth Australia. JODIES wee family are in their 6th complete lockdown in 18 months. I dont usually speculate however a totally credible and reliable source predicted yesterday regards Melbourne ….to expect this latest lockdown to extend into the New Year 2022.!!!!!
Can you imagine the economic and mental anxt of that !!!
So appreciate your posts and photos. Totally understand your creative flow waning. Mine hasn’t returned yet after our epic road trip .. soon and very soon I’m trusting (:
GoldCard Gal says
It makes us realise how lucky we are here in NZ then, compared to Melbourne – poor Jodie and family. Feeling much better tonight thanks 🙂
